Advanced in-car software and telematics systems are bringing more and more technology into cars and making them easier and better to use. These types of systems have traditionally been expensive options, often secondary to other factors in the decision to buy internal combustion vehicles. In EVs, telematics become much more important and are considered to be one of the primary differentiators that consumers will care about.
The Better Place on-board computing platform connects drivers to our network operation center, enabling us to provide unprecedented services to our customers. The Better Place in-car software provides EV drivers these services in addition the traditional radio and multimedia functions:
- Energy monitoring (e.g. alert drivers in case of low battery state of charge)
- Energy planning (e.g. enable drivers to plan a route, understand their range or autonomy and advise when they will need to charge)
- Service and support (e.g. on the road directions to the nearest switch station or available charge spot and live troubleshooting)
- Charging and battery switch (e.g. provide intelligence to the charging process such as priority charging and managing the battery switch process)
The in-car services are built using Continental hardware on the Intel Atom and Microsoft Windows platform, which have best-in-class computing power to support these advanced in-car services.
